I have some old Funk & Wagnall encyclopedias that I want to get rid of. I hate the idea of throwing them away. They are 14 years old. It's a complete set.
I searched the web and found that at least one library won't take encyclopedias over 10 years old. I've called a few charities and no one wants them.
Any ideas on donating? Is recycling available?

Not sure if it is too late for my 2 cents but recycling is the best choice if no one will take the books. You'll need to contact your local recyclers for drop off locations.
readingtree.org collects books for charity.
I am having the same problem - the library & VVA won't take them. What did you end up doing?
Pepoc, welcome to my blog. It's been a long time, but I think I gave them to my sister who gave them to her library. I don't know if they recycled them or what. I didn't care once I got rid of them.
Come back and visit soon.
I am having the same problem. Nobody wants them including the American Vets, Goodwill, librarys. It seems a waste just to recycle but that may be the least of bad alternatives.
Anonymous,
Thanks for finding this old entry (about a year old). I ended up donating them to a library. What they did with them, I don't know, but I got them off my hands and hopefully someone got some good out of them (even if it was a bonfire).
