This article confirms that the planet Jupiter has been struck by a comet or an asteroid. You may think "so what, I'm not moving to Jupiter anytime soon and I don't know anyone who lives there."
But what if the comet or asteroid had hit the earth? Well, it would have been a very bad thing. All you have to do is watch the movies, like Deep Impact, Asteroid, or any Saturday afternoon B movie to understand.
Thankfully, our solar system has a couple of big planets out there that act as magnets to attract comets and asteroids. I mean, think of it this way, if you were aiming at planets, would you rather aim at a big target like Jupiter, or a small target like Earth?
So, we all can be thankful that Jupiter is out there. You know, when you think about it, it's almost like someone designed it that way :)

I kind of thought the same thing, no one knew this was coming? A little scary.
Makes me wonder if the Gubmint would actually tell us if something was about to wipe us out?
It's scary to think that something the size of Earth just smacked into Jupiter.
Chuck, welcome back.
I suspect that the object was small (compared the Jupiter) and was hidden by the planet itself. What's interesting is that an amateur saw the event, not the "Gubmint" as Lightning so put it. Truth is, I'm not sure I want the government spending more money trying to see these things...
The whole time I was reading this I was thinking, "hasn't anyone ever thought that maybe God designed it this way on purpose?" Then, you had to go and ruin my thought by putting it at the end of your blog. This is getting a little scary that you and I think alike. Oh well...guess it could be a lot worse. =)
Kayte, glad you caught the reference... If I have a chance, I'm going to post more on this in a couple of days..
No, no, no, it was completely random and haphazard! :-)
